Realistic price ranges in Kenya
As a general guide, and reflecting what our own packages cover, expect ranges roughly like this for a custom-coded, professionally built site:
| Website type | Typical range | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Starter site | Ksh 40,000 – 70,000 | Small business, single service, up to ~7 pages |
| Business site | Ksh 90,000 – 150,000 | Established SME, lead generation, branding |
| Premium / custom site | Ksh 150,000+ | Corporate brands, booking systems, payment integration |
Anything advertised far below this for a genuinely custom, hand-coded site should be treated with caution, not excitement. Our own current pricing is listed in full on the packages section of the home page.
What actually drives the price
- Number of pages. A five-page site costs less than a fifteen-page one, simply because there is more to design, write and build.
- Custom features. Booking systems, M-PESA or card payment integration, client portals and multi-language support all add real development time.
- Design work. A site built around your brand, with original layout decisions, costs more than a template with your logo dropped in.
- Content and copywriting. If you need someone to write your website's text, not just design around it, that is additional work.
- SEO foundations. Proper metadata, structured data and a search-ready technical setup take real time to do correctly, and are often the first thing skipped by the cheapest providers.
Why the cheapest option is often the most expensive one
A very cheap website is usually cheap because it is a template with minimal customisation, built on a platform you do not own, or delivered without a proper handover of source code and accounts. The real cost shows up later: when you want changes the template can't support, when you need to migrate away from a platform holding your site hostage, or when you have to pay a second developer to rebuild it entirely because the first one cut corners.
Ongoing costs to budget for
Beyond the one-off build, budget for domain renewal (usually annual), hosting, and optionally a maintenance plan for security updates, content edits and technical support. Our own Monthly Maintenance package starts from Ksh 8,000 per month, but the right ongoing budget depends on how often your site needs to change.
